Beginning my personal investigation

I chose this I thought it would be challenging but still have a sense of enjoyment, it also still connects to my personal likes when it comes to photography.
Exercise #2 Close to home
Work within a 10 minute walk radius of your home. Explore the area for 30 minutes from a distance of 5 metres. Repeat the exercise focussing your camera at 4 metres and so on until you are photographing everything from 0.5 metres away.
Think about how distance and proximity change your relationship to things.

lDetails are important when it comes to photography because they add depth and nuance to any subject or surrounding, depth is important because they add layers of matter and importance to a image, I see matter as going deeper into a image like when taking a photo then walking closer to the thing your taking it of. They refine understanding due to if your not seeing the details of a image up close you could be missing something that sums up or makes the whole image make sense , they also affect your emotions since if you don’t see the little things you may not like a image as much. from a distance photos often loose finer details like colours may merge or blend, or feature of the subject may be lost.
I took 6 images using the concept and I think they turned out okay, I took them all near home around a 15 minute radius, I didn't try make them look nice or anything since that isn't my main goal my main goal is finding the details, next time I am going to take more and of things that capture my eye, also from away from where I live.

Rinko Kawauchi
Rinko Kawauchi is a known Japanese contemporary photographer, her work is very minimalistic to everyday moments, she often explores themes of nature and her life, she looks for the beauty in simple moments. Rinko Kawauchi use of colour and composition makes her images look very cold and wintery in my opinion but I like her work because of it. Her images don’t always have to be in focus also and they still look pleasing which makes her different from the rest of the artists, almost like she’s making something out of nothing with her own spin because they are very distinctive
Second close to home attempt
Exercise #7 : The Public Stage
Think about the the way that the camera viewfinder can activate a human drama which may or may not really exist.
Joel Meyerowitz
Joel Meyerowitz is another street photographer who started out in the 60s, he was one of the first to use colour film in photography. his work has its own special energy due to being taken in the 60s since everything was much different back then, he captures many different properties from the hustle and bustle of the new York streets and landscapes. He has an interesting way of bringing the ordinary to life through special features. Meyerowitz has a unique technique when noticing unusual things in the street that will create a staged effect even more than chris's images, I think this is because New York is famous for it's intriguing character and personality compared to London where the people are are slightly different.
Chris is a talented British photographer, in this project he is capturing street photography of people going about there business and everyday life but it almost looks staged all around east London, he does this in a way that tells a story by looking at the image since there is always activity going on in the image. Chris does this only at intersections in East London because there is much more going on for a reference the first image has a scene of the police taping off an area, it looks staged because there isn't much happening but still unusual to capture. The colours in his work aren't very vibrant but I also like it since it looks more realistic because people you see London around london can be perceived quite a dull and perhaps colourless place due to the weather. This sequence of images is called 'The Corners'' which is his most popular piece.
My online exhibition
This is my online exhibition of my images which are from the exercise close to home, I made them into a collage on free form, to improve this I would make a film on iMovie or Vimeo, I like the outcome since this is something I’ve never done before. I did an online exhibition because I like the fact that you can see all of the images at one time, you can also make multiple very quickly compared to the hassle of printing them out. An online exhibition can also give you the foundation you need to make a real exhibition so you have a rough idea on what you are planning to do. If I was to take these images again I would change the scenery to something different like taking them when it’s dark outside or in a urban and more utopian place compared to these images they’re of mainly nature, I would also travel further away from my house so I may see things I haven’t seen before compared to these which are on a everyday journey.
what is a photograph?
I improved my work by making a slideshow, I used imovie to put the same photos together to create a sequence. I edited them by selecting the order and putting them into black and white to completely change the idea. I am still presenting my photos but in a different way compared to the collage. to improve this once again i would use different photos of a different exercise such as public stage and do a similar task or something completely different. I like the idea of having my photos all in one document and not muddled up, in a video they’re all there and all you have to do is play similarly to a collage they are all there you just have to explore. around.
Hidden beauty
Exercise #5: Hidden beauty
Choose an object that is not interesting in itself - something mundane and everyday, neither ugly nor beautiful. Study the object carefully. Think of a way to photograph it that will make it interesting. Take the object out of its normal environment, or change its colour, or make it look like something else. Perform with it, move it, light it.
Think about how you can add the extra element that will raise the status of this ordinary thing, and how you can use your photography to document the transformation.

I took photographs of houses but at night time, houses are everywhere but at night time its slightly different since if the lights are on people are most likely in them, I turned down the exposure and took them of the windows. I also took images around my room since I cant see the beauty in the objects because I see them everyday, tried different positions from far away and closer with different lighting then took the images wherever I think is best. I like taking images with low exposure since it creates more contrast in the image between light and dark.
These are both of my experiments I did. The first one I did I didnt like very much since it was too overcomplicated and overcrowded making it hard to appreciate the images. I took photos which i did for the exercise hidden beauty, I came out with these collage because its kind of like a pattern which I have never done before, I usually just do it in a random order but this one it was planned out. What I did was have the images of the houses to start off with then mixed them with houses and shadows then the last mix of them all. This creates a hidden meaning behind them and being in a sequence it takes it further. I did this instead since its less confusing and sometimes less is more, I like the minimalistic look of them together but still have some character with the layout, think that this works much better.
These are digital collages I made, they all have one thing in common. I prefer having digital colleges to typical ones because they look cleaner and more presentable, this little exercise is an extension of the one I did previously, but a merge of both. if I wanted to take this further I would print them out and present them as a collection on a wall.

SOUND
Exercise #6: Sound pictures
Make recordings of 10 different types of ambient sound - traffic noises, footsteps, music playing, singing, talking, planes overhead, the wind in the trees etc. Try to record these sounds in different locations. Now, try to make photographs to fit with each of the sounds.
Think about how to make photographs like sounds e.g. long or multiple exposures, cropping, layering etc. to suggest the abstract ways in which sounds work on our nervous systems. Present the resulting images and sounds together audio-visually.

This piece I kept in mind sound waves how you cant see them but they’re always there, they bounce off things and travel everywhere we go, my images are blurry
MIRRORS AND WINDOWS
Mirrors and windows is something we discussed in class, in a philosophical manor, through mirrors your looking at yourself and how you are perceived through other peoples eyes, it can help you tell your own story about your self, find your identity, experiences and motivations because you are looking too and through your own eyes. Windows are looking out onto the world providing views of that may be read or imagined or unfamiliar to us. I chose this image that I took because its a mix of both mirrors an reflections it has a reflection in it from the sunlight but its a window, it makes both outlooks on mirrors and windows mix. I was also travelling at the time adding a extra layer of detail completing the image.
ALEJANDRA CARLES TOLRA
Alejandra is a Spanish photographer who came to visit us in school, she grew up in Spain moved to the USA for 5 years then to the UK. She had went with a group society to the country side to take a look at these people who liked Jane Austen books which were set in the regency time period ( around 200 years ago). They had dressed up and cosplayed in this area for sometimes a weekend or for the week. She had gone of this trip with them and took various images which are displayed in her book named Where We Belong. We also spent some time looking over her images deciding if they were staged or not staged , or if they were candid or not. This excessive was interesting since it made us look deeper into her images and question everything about them from a point of view that I had never explored before

we had a workshop with a Spanish photographer who gave us the task to take pictures around school but of certain things such as of feet, people doing activities ect. Then we was asked to put them into a sequence which, I did mine not in a line but into mini compartments/ colleges. One being people, next railings and the other corners.

other project with alejandra...
we were given words to associate with certain images that she had took, after we had done that we took one of the words to take images around school I had chosen reality which was actually much more difficult then i had thought since I thought i could have just associated it to thing that i had seen as real but it wasn’t as simple. I had done it to things that people had moved or put there for a reason. For a example the tennis ball on top of the roof a student much had thrown it up there or the blinds down in the office was down because someone had put it down for more privacy.
NIKO FROEHLICH
for both of these photo shoots they are inspired by Niko .... and ...... I took a series of images around the school and
What kind of photographer am i?
I did this document to represent what kind of photographer I am, the arrows show what I feel strongest about what matches me and how far away the end is shows how far in the middle or to the other side they are. This shows how I take my pictures and why I take my pictures. I did it on freeform as a poster since I feel it looks neatest and demonstrates it best.
